nzvia logo suggestions

In februarys NewZletter I mentioned that it would be great to have a Logo representing us all. However, I do understand that other NZ Veteran organisations already have their own such as Vietnam Veterans etc. Nevertheless, it was a thought and I would like to thank Rion Gallagher and Chris Brownie for their suggestions as follows:

rion gallagher

Rion's logo below is a slight modification of the logo he and his wife designed for Vietnam Veterans in Victoria a number of years ago. Rion is happy for Veterans to use the logo without charge as long as he and his wife are acknowledged. The lightning bolts reflect the letter V for Veteran and the colours represent the three services. The Kiwi and Southern Cross need no explanation.

Chris's logo below also represents the three services and the Southern Cross. The logo on the left is contained within a peace laurel. This logo is available at a very affordable cost of $20 (incl postage).

chris has provided further information: reasons for simplicity of design, Small but distinctive for bikers (and looks ok on sports jacket). “Peace laurel” the circle is 10cm across, Army, Navy, Air Force with Southern Cross. “Veteran” measures 8cm across x 10cm down. Same pattern.

Structure is similar to the Veteran lapel badge (Year of the veteran). Army, Navy, Air Force pattern is as close as I could get to the lapel badge. NZ southern cross stars are red (Aussy stars are white)

The peace laurel is silver, same colour as silver fern. (As well as representing all kiwi servicemen, active and non-active the peace laurel also internationally identifies the purpose of a Defence Force, to maintain peace)

Black, red and white are the colours of the maori flag. Crossed sword and taiaha could be done in a different colour. We tried “New Zealand” across the top, but that changed the dynamics and size to much.

Both patterns are on computing software, with a local badge maker, so its not to difficult to make minor alterations.
